A common question that comes up on our 3M products is “what is the difference in the manufacturer 3M and 3M(TC)?” TC means “Tape Converted”. These parts are not a manufacturer standard size offered through the 3M factory. These 3M custom-cut products match 3M technologies to your requirements with the exact form, fit, and functionality you need
For example if you look at 3M part number SJ3000 1"X50YD BLACK you will see the manufacturer listed as 3M. This is a full manufacturer piece that is 1 inch wide and 50 yards long. Now if you look at part number 1-20-SJ3000-BLK this is the same material, however Digi-Key has cut this down to a length of 20 feet and you will see the manufacturer listed as 3M(TC).
For many of these products you will find the dimensions listed as part of the manufacturer part number. You will also see this information listed as part of the description as well. In the 3M part number above the dimensions are fairly clear. In the 3M(TC) part number they are also listed, however a bit hidden. The “1-20” in the manufacturer number 1-20-SJ3000-BLK is calling out a 1 inch width and 20 foot length.
