B65812C1512T001 Discoloration Anomaly (after solder dipping)

Bobbin B65812C1512T001 needed to have the leads solder dipped. My team reported an anomoly showing white discoloration at the bottom and and sides near the leads. They reported they followed the processing notes as done before on other lots; which had no issues. I’m wondering if these were held in too long. From the photos, i’m also wondering if this is just cosmetic.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Greetings,

I thought that was a black & white photo at first…

Just looking at it, I might suspect some sort of solvent action or residue deposition. Possibly something heat-reactive. That bit of schmoo on the round portion seems rather reminiscent of dried flux residues on a PCB that didn’t quite get cleaned…

Hard to tell, and in any case a question of what can be written off as “cosmetic” can sometimes vary depending on application concerns. A person might take a closer look at a sample and perhaps scratch at things a bit to get a feel for whether or not one’s looking at a residue, or something with more of a denaturating effect resulting in embrittlement, friability etc. Changes in surface conductivity may also be at issue.
