Cat 3 for Cinch 108-0903-001

------Question for 108-0903-001 Please Put your question below------

I want to use Cinch 108-0903-001 in a breakout box to monitor a circuit that is between 120-240vac and can carry up to 40A. I would not draw the 40A but want to be able to read the amperage. Is this a safe usage of the 108-0903-001?

Greetings,

The concept of “safe” can vary quite broadly depending on context, and determining suitability for the purposes you intend is ultimately your responsibility.

That said, this looks like a “plain” banana jack, designed for use with plugs/leads of the sort pictured below that provide zero protection against accidental contact with the conductors.

A less sketchy approach for providing test point access to spicy circuits would be to use sheathed banana hardware exemplified by P/Ns 72930-0 and 6383-0 and commonly seen on multimeters and other test equipment designed for probing of circuits at hazardous potentials.

Selecting “sheathed” values in the “insulation” attribute for the product family should zero in on related products of type, hoewever the data for that attribute is not entirely consistent and such a selection will exclude some similar candidate items.

I would not draw the 40A but want to be able to read the amperage.

I’m taking this to mean using the hardware in question to monitor voltage across a shunt resistance or similar. Current capacities of such hardware are of course limited, so additional considerations would apply if one wanted to measure the current in question directly.
