Hi

We are looking from Industrial to Commercial DDR4 to reduce cost. Our environment is \< 70deg. Can you confirm Commercial is cheaper and the only downside is potential continuity of the same supply

With our limited number of modules and searching for generic ddr4 it’s really hard to come to a specific conclusion (only one module \< 85 vs \< 95): [https://www.digikey.com/short/m48njqm1](https://www.digikey.com/short/m48njqm1)

But i can say, you’re not the first end user that has looked closely at their design and optimized ddr memory on cost. Most customers the biggest issue is continuation of supply at this time and finding compatible 2nd source modules (or updating their boot-loader logic to support multiple ddr timings..)

Regards,

Commercial is cheaper, yes. But I would not call supply the only downside, its the main one. Two things from our side:

1. Commercial DDR4 goes EOL and changes die revision faster. You save few dollars on BOM, then pay for requalification when the part changes.
2. 70C ambient is not 70C on the chip. Measure case temp inside the enclosure at full load before you decide.
For small volume I would stay industrial, saving is not worth it. How many boards per year you build?
