Does this receptacle contain a spring contact, suitable for receiving a 2mm meter probe, or does it expect the plug to provide spring force, analogous to banana plugs? Side question: Why is the datasheet completely uninformative?
It doesn’t look like there is, but the manufacturer does specify a material type for the spring, so I think the jack does have spring contacts: Cal Test Model CT3104-0
“Body & spring: Brass, Ni coated”
They’re just difficult to see in the drawing because it doesn’t provide an exploded diagram of the connector’s pieces.
The only possibly-mating plug I could find from Cal Test with 2mm diameter is CT3098-0 or 2, and these have a spring as shown in the product photo. So I take that as a strong suggestion that the CT3104 does not have a spring.
I discount the fact that the description for CT3104 mentions a material for a spring, because Cal Test’s literature seems to be very vague and seemingly unaware of what a purchaser actually wants to know. For what it’s worth, the CT3098 “datasheet” clearly shows springs in the photo, but does not mention that in the Material description. “Contact Material - Brass, Ni Coated”.
