This diode measures 4.48x3.75x 2.1 tall. I believe it to be a tvs or zener as the device operates with it removed so it seems to be a protective component. This makes sense because it is an industrial grade automotive diagnostic tool. Markings are Motorola 425 the bottom row is hard to read but I believe it is 24A. Measuring the board cathode side voltage is 9.48v anode is -2.1v with 11.5v reverse current. The device is powered from 12v DC.
Can anyone positively confirm these markings so I can find a modern equivalent?

I believe the part marking corresponds to Part Number P6SMB24AT3
A suitable replacement I would offer for your consideration would be P6SMB24A
I have matched up this same part number by perusing a 1998 Motorola tvs/diode catalog thank you so much for confirming I feel a lot better with this confirmation and sanity check.
I do have one follow up question that is more of curiosity than anything , I have found a few examples of Motorola TVS diodes with 24A marking, one with 717 on the top line, mine has 425, and I saw another with 302 all had 24A on bottom line. What is this top line marking supposed to be, it does not appear to correspond with package size and there is zero mention of it in the motorola TVS catalog from 1998, only the 24A
The top line is going to be date/lot code information.
