How to disable man-db installation

Hi Robert,

In installation of a deb package file, for some packages, it waits for
Processing triggers for man-db
for very long time. Is there a way/option not to install man-db ? Such as :
sudo dpkg -i ./libncurses6_6.1+20181013-2+deb10u2_armhf.deb
Or is it possible in some where with a flag to disable man-db installation all-together, because no one uses on-machine manual anymore.

Thank you,
David

I’m pretty sure you can just remove it:

sudo apt remove man-db --purge

Regards,

Hi Robert,
I had executed the command:
sudo apt remove man-db --purge
then installed some packages (but the psmisc installation triggered building manual again):

It seems the man-db trigger is embedded in the deb package. Hope there is a way to disable or exclude it. If not, it is not biggie.

David

Hi @dzhou, man-db got reinstalled when you added psmisc…

Just nuke them, then man-db won’t have any files to generate…

sudo rm -rf /usr/share/locale/
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/man/
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/doc/

Then have dpkg filter them out:

sudo nano /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/01_nodoc
# Delete locales
path-exclude=/usr/share/locale/*

# Delete man pages
path-exclude=/usr/share/man/*

# Delete docs
path-exclude=/usr/share/doc/*
path-include=/usr/share/doc/*/copyright

Hi Robert,
