Text I had this transformer given to me and I can’t find a data sheet. If possible could you please help me identify the wires
Hello @mikecasey,
This looks like a power transformer for a tube type amplifier. My best guess is that it has windings for:
- 6.3 V filaments
- 5.0 V rectifier filaments
- High voltage
- Bias
- Dual (Universal) input windings for European and American power grids
DigiKey carries related transformers such as this which may help you identify the wires according to this diagram.
Note:
- Wire color is not standardized
- It is possible that your transformer was designed for a voltage doubler circuit
Identifying the windings begins with an ohmmeter to identify related windings and to identify the resistance between windings e.g., resistance yellow twisted to yellow twisted wire and are the yellow wires independent from all other windings.
Best Wishes,
APDahlen
Thanks that’s very helpful
