Can someone help me out I want to modify this Vu Meter kit and change the color of the leds to green yellow and red I want to know what type to use with the order numbers also if you change the color of the leds the resistors have to be changed for each color used it will be 3 green, 3 yellow, and 4 red I need to know the size of the resistors for the colors of leds used I have included the manual could someone please help thanks Dave

I too am not seeing that there is a specific item numbering for the kit you reference.
Velleman K4307: AUDIO POWER METER – Velleman – Wholesaler and developer of electronics
I would recommend contacting Velleman group to see if they can provide an option that would be orderable and also have the colors you are looking for.
Here are the specifications for the Quantity: 10 LEDs.
- Luminous Intensity: 8 to 20 mcd (millicandela) per LED.
- Color: Red (as seen in the provided image and standard for this model).
- Physical Size: Typically 3mm or 5mm standard through-hole LEDs, common for Velleman visual indicator kits.
- Power Consumption: The entire display consumes approximately 25mA when all 10 LEDs are illuminated at full scale.
specifications for the resistors
For the
Velleman K4307 Audio Power Meter, the resistors are standard 1/4-watt through-hole components used for signal conditioning and setting the threshold for each LED stage.
The kit typically includes the following resistor values as part of its discrete transistor-based circuitry:
Common Resistor Values
-
3.3KΩ (3K3): Often used for LED current limiting or in the transistor bias stages.
-
10KΩ: Commonly used for input sensitivity and general signal paths.
-
1KΩ to 2.2KΩ: Often found in the initial input stages to manage the speaker-level signal.
-
High-Ohm Resistors (e.g., 100KΩ+): Used to create the high-impedance input so the meter does not load down the loudspeaker signal.
Key Specifications
-
Tolerance: Typically ±5% (indicated by a gold fourth band).
-
Power Rating: 0.25W (1/4 Watt) is the standard for almost all resistors in this kit, as the current consumption is very low (25mA total).
-
Type: Carbon film or metal film through-hole resistors.
I got theses here they are discontinued
Looking over the schematic (page 9) for the circuit I expect that nearly any green/yellow/red, 3 or 5 mm body, LED will work fine.
Some LEDs won’t be very bright @ 2.5mA, and others will be too bright. You can lower the brightness by increasing the value of the 150 ohm collector resistor (e.g. 220 ohm).
While you can raise the brightness by decreasing the resistor value (e.g. 100 ohm), you could overload the power circuitry. But if you balance the increase/decrease of the 9 resistors so that the total stays around 1350 ohms (9 times 150 ohms) it should work OK and you can achieve similar brightness for all three colors.

Thank you they will all have to be changed for the different colors to get the same brightness
