Looks like the braid is Aluminium

------Question for 3021078-03 Please Put your question below------

I assume the braid / screen is aluminium as it will not solder with conventional LF solder.

I know this is not normally an issue, but having discovered the fact I felt it was worth sharing.

Welcome to the forum.

Very often aluminum on mylar for foil shields.

Often you can solder to a tinned drain wire running inside the shield that is electrically bonded to the foil shield.

When there is no drain wire, or don’t want to open the bundle, you can often solder to some copper foil tape that uses an electrically conductive adhesive, and then stick it to the shield.

The datasheet indicates there is a drain wire. As Paul Hutch suggests this might be the connection you would see if you can tin with solder/flux.

Conventional SnAgCu lead-free solder generally will not bond reliably to aluminium

Couldn’t you solder to the drain wire as Kristof points out?

Thank you for the replies. Yes, the drain wire is in the bundle, I should have been more specific, I was not asking for advice more mentioning as I thought the screen would be solderable on this cable as it also has a foil wrap.
