------Question for IRM-90-24ST Please Put your question below------
I’m looking to use a Mean Well IRM-90-24ST in a design I’m working on. I’ve used various Mean Well supplies in the past, but this is the first one that I’ve seen a note regarding a duty cycle. The note reads, “33% Duty cycle maximum within every 30 seconds.”. I find it hard to believe this power supply has a 10 sec ON per 30 sec duty cycle. Can you confirm if this is correct or if I’ve misunderstood the note?
Hello, zchoover. Welcome to TechForum!
This note on duty cycle is intended to apply only to the “Peak Power” rating. Note that the “RATED POWER” section of the document shows two values: Peak(10 sec), and Convection, with the Peak value being slightly higher:

Note 2’s information on Duty Cycle states that out of every thirty seconds, you can run the device at the Peak value listed for 10s. The average power value across the entire duty cycle should not exceed the recommended value however, which is the “Convection” value. Presuming that proper convection cooling is applied, the Convection value is what you can get away with over the entire duty cycle. If the system occasionally needs higher you can spike as high as 99W, but then you would need to drop below 90W for a time to keep your average in place.

I suspected I was missing something. Thanks for clarifying that for me!
