MOV2 ident & replacement

I recently procured a used treadmill by Nordic Track and couldn’t get the belt to run so I took out the board and discovered the MOV2s appeared to be blown with black smoke on them. Does your store carry this part? And is it worth replacing the individual parts and the associated fuse, or swapping out the entire circuit board?

Thx,
H

Hello hollytrask and welcome to the DigiKey TechForum.

We do carry MOVs but I would need more information. Are you able to see any marking on the MOV? Are you able to provide the model number for the treadmill? May be able to find documentation for that?

Hello Nick,

Sorry for my response delay.

This is for a Nordic Track flex select T 6.5 Si, and the label on the board reads MOV2.

Do the attached pics help?

Thanks,
Holly

With that much damage visible on MOVs it’s very likely other components are damaged too.

MOVs function by clamping voltage spikes, and finally becoming a short circuit when the surges have exceeded its capacity to absorb them.
So the easiest way to determine if other parts need replacement is to remove all three MOVs and see if the system starts working.

  • If it starts working then you can simply replace the MOVs.
  • If it does not work with the MOVs removed then other components are damaged.

Thanks for the feedback. Does DigiKey sell the MOV2s?

Or the entire circuit board for this treadmill?

Thx,
Holly

Hello hollytrask,

As far as the MOV’s, we would need a little more information. The board however we would not carry but it is available to order if you look online.
