Omega Engineering supplies measurement and control products, including thermocouple temperature probes such as 5TC-TT-T-30-72. We’ve had some questions recently on the temperature range given for this product, 32 ~ 300°F or 0 ~ 150°C. Customers ask if this is correct, as the thermocouple should be able to accurately measure temperatures well in excess of 150°C. What gives?
The thermocouples can indeed measure temperatures well beyond 150°C. The PTFE insulation on the probes, however, objects to temperatures higher than this. As such the test probes as a whole are rated to 150°C to ensure the PTFE doesn’t suffer damage.
