I was steered to the part number above to replace my part # P51-300G-A-I28-20mA. The sales guy said the only difference was the wire harness length. Is that correct?

Looks like the I28 in the part number indicates the wire gauge and length. The version we have in stock is the I36 which is the 36" long while the I28 is the 28" long though that option doesn’t seem available on the data sheet.
