This is driving me crazy, I’m trying to replace the LEDs on this Sony head unit faceplate but polarity is confusing. The PCB marking has a [ between the pads and a dot on this side of the [ • I’m guessing the would be the CATHODE side [ facing the negative. I’m trying to use 603’ and 805’s. When searching polarity of the LEDs I’m finding conflicting information. Google searches are of no help anymore.
Greetings,
Ambiguity of diode polarity marks is indeed an ongoing issue.
From a repair standpoint though, a 50/50 chance of correctly guessing what convention somebody chose are pretty good odds. LEDs usually aren’t function critical so simply applying power and measuring what shows up can be a reasonable approach to clarifying the matter. Following the traces to see how they’re connected usually offers good clues also.
