Piezo disk

Hi all,

I’m a Mechanical Engineer and not familiar with electrical stuff too much. But I want to use a Piezo disk both as a transmitter and receiver. i.e., I want to send an acoustic wave with the piezo disc and then receive the signal with the same piezo. What kind of equipment and circuit do I need to get this functionality from a piezo, in addition to a function generator and oscilloscope?

Thank you!

Checking on this. Will let you know what I find.

Hello,

You could take a look at DigiKey part number 28015-ND

Dear @Karl_1696,

Thank you very much for your reply.

In the part you shared, there are two distinct transducers, one for transmitting and one for receiving, while I need only one transducer acts as both transmitter and receiver. Additionally, in my case, I use a piezo disc inserted into a customized waveguide. Therefore, I do not need any additional active element and only require a circuit that can switch between transmitting and receiving modes of that one single piezo. My desired operating frequency is approximately 100 kHz.

Based on the above explanation, I would greatly appreciate your recommendation on a suitable solution or any specific circuit or product you believe would be appropriate for my application.

Thank you very much for your time and guidance.

Hi davood,

Are you looking for something like one of these?

We still don’t know anything about the piezo disc you have or how it needs to be driven, or what the actual purpose is for the “waveguide” system you mention.

Some piezo devices require 10V or less to drive while others may require 150V or more. And, there may be orders-of-magnitude differences in the power required for various systems.

You may want to check out this relevant Texas Instruments page for some more research.

Dear @David_1528

Thank you very much for sharing the parts link.

BOOSTXL-TUSS4440-ND seems to be the right one for the project.

Thank you again!
