Placement of a blower-style fan with open back

------Question for BUB0812HN-00 Please Put your question below------

Hello, I want to use the BUB0812HN-00 fans for my HEPA + Carbon filter project, but I’m unsure on how this fan style should be mounted. It looks like a typical blower fan but has open back, so i assume the placement would be similiar to the typical blower style, just with some extra space behind the fan to allow for airflow movement around the open back? Should the area around the intake be covered so the air can’t go around the intake and to the back opening or should i keep it open?

Hello teamskamil,

It appears that the information you may be looking for can be found on page 4 and 7 of the datasheet. This shows the air flow of this particular fan.

Thanks for replying, I looked at the datasheet before I posted, and I can see it has intake at front and exhaust at the top/side, where the arrow is. However I can’t really tell from those drawings if the opening at the back (left side when I look at drawing on page 4) is supposed to be treated as a second intake or second exhaust? Looking at the blades shape, I suppose it’s a second intake?
Sorry if this seems trivial/obvious to you, I just want to make sure this will fit my design and I won’t end up with 3 nice fans I can’t use.

Hi teamskamil,

That second opening in the other axial side of the blower is definitely another path for air to be drawn into the blower, rather than exit. The air will all go out the single blower exit port.

If you are planning to draw air through a filter before blowing out the exit port, I would say either block that second entry point to prevent unfiltered air from entering that side, or design it such that the air entering through either side of the blower intake first passes through the filter.
