**Evaluation Item 2: Memory Test**

As a foreword, this post is part of our [horizontal evaluation of Raspberry Pi 5 and other models](https://forum.digikey.com/t/raspberry-pi-5-vs-other-models/53405). Please see that post for further information on the evaluation.

Previous tests in this series can be found here:

After testing the CPU, we will test the memory. At this time, we’ll use **SysBench** again to test the read and write performance of the four Raspberry Pi memories: [Zero 2W](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/raspberry-pi/SC1176/15298147?_gl=1*t8h26s*_gcl_au*Mjg5MzU4OTYyLjE3Mzg2NjA0NzM.), [PI3B+](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/raspberry-pi/SC0073/8571724), [PI4](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/filter/%E5%8D%95%E6%9D%BF%E8%AE%A1%E7%AE%97%E6%9C%BA-sbc/933?s=N4IgjCBcoLQCxVAYygMwIYBsDOBTANCAPZQDaIAHAJwAMA7FSALoC%2BLhATGSIIgWgycGA%2BW2YsgA&_gl=1*5xknpl*_gcl_au*Mjg5MzU4OTYyLjE3Mzg2NjA0NzM), and [PI5](https://www.digikey.com/en/products/filter/%E5%8D%95%E6%9D%BF%E8%AE%A1%E7%AE%97%E6%9C%BA-sbc/933?s=N4IgjCBcoLQCxVAYygMwIYBsDOBTANCAPZQDa4YAnAOxUgC6Avo4QExkiCIFoMnBgfLYOMgA&_gl=1*5xknpl*_gcl_au*Mjg5MzU4OTYyLjE3Mzg2NjA0NzM). The test commands used are as follows:

> _sysbench memory --threads=4 --memory-block-size=1K --memory-total-size=2G --memory-oper=read run_
> _sysbench memory --threads=4 --memory-block-size=1K --memory-total-size=2G --memory-oper=write run_

| Model | RAM |
| --- | --- |
| **PI 5** | LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM (2GB/4GB/8GB) |
| **PI 4B** | LPDDR4-3200 SDRAM(2GB/4GB/8GB) |
| **PI 3B+** | 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM |
| **PI Zero 2W** | 512MB LPDDR2 |

The read and write test results are shown below. From **Figure 1** , we can clearly see the difference in memory read and write speeds between the various Raspberry Pi models. PI5 is still far ahead, with the highest memory performance and the fastest data transfer speed.
