Temperature Sensors - Analog and Digital Output

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Temperature Sensors - Analog and Digital Output category on DigiKey.com

Analog and Digital Output Temperature Sensors are designed to measure the amount of ambient heat energy. The characteristics are sensor type, sensing temperature local, sensing temperature remote, output type, voltage supply, and resolution. The sensor types are analog local/remote/infrared, analog-digital, local/remote, digital local/remote/infrared, or internal, with a sensing temperature range of -55°C to 200°C.

SelectionCharacteristics

Specifications to determine which analog and digital output temperature sensor is right for your application.

Sensor Type: The type of sensor technology used to measure the temperature, such as analog, digital, thermocouple, etc.

Sensing Temperature - Local: Temperature range measurable by a device using an integrated (internal) sensing mechanism.

Sensing Temperature - Remote: Temperature range measurable by a device using an external sensor or transduction mechanism, or the measurable temperature range of detected objects, for infrared sensors.

Output Type: The type of electrical signal output by the device, such as Analog current, analog voltage, or I2C

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Resolution: The smallest value that can be displayed.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as isolated, output switch, etc.

Accuracy – Highest (lowest): Manufacturer’s specified measurement error limits across a specified temperature/temp range. (Over full operating temperature range)

Test Conditions: Manufacturer defined parameters that the sensor was tested under.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.

Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
