Solid Core VS Stranded Wire

Looking at 288-JB-FT10-ND and 288-JB-FT15-ND from American Electrical. We’ve previously been asked if these products can be used with both AC (solid core) and DC (stranded core) wire circuits.

Both solid core and stranded (multi-strand) can be used for AC or DC voltage, but solid is generally preferable unless you expect that it will be moved around a bit or otherwise needs to be flexible. In that case, if you have to use stranded wire, best practice is to use a bit of solder to tin the exposed copper so that it doesn’t spread the individual strands out when the terminal is closed. Some would say you have to crimp a ferrule to the end, but unless these are being mass produced I don’t think that will be necessary.
