WHAT DOES THE SUFFIX 0973 DENOTE?

If it’s marked on the part, it’s likely just some sort of production code.

If you’re referring to the 0973 suffix on part XCF16PVO48C0973 from Rochester Electronics and how it’s different than the Xilinx/AMD part number XCF16PVOG48C (DigiKey part number 122-1456-ND), there is no documentation from either alluding to what the 0973 denotes. It may be that 0973 is referring to a specific version of part XCF16PVO48C that is being sold, but without documentation all we have is speculation. I also want to point out that part from Rochester is VO48 and not VOG48, meaning that they are not in a lead-free package. Not sure if that matters to you, but it may be worth noting.
