UL Marks of Conformity

I am reviewing the agency approval markings for DigiKey parts F2419-ND and FN385B-4-..-ND and would appreciate some clarification.

For F2419-ND, the manufacturer’s datasheet indicates that the fuse carries the UL Recognized Component (UR) mark. However, during a recent inspection, our Intertek inspector noted that our critical component list appears to require a UL Listed mark.

Similarly, the datasheet for FN385B-4-..-ND identifies a UR approval, while the applicable Intertek documentation appears to require a cUR or CSA marking.

I visually inspected the physical components but could not locate the specific approval markings referenced in the Intertek requirements.

Could anyone please clarify whether these components have undergone any agency-approval or marking changes over time or if there is a marking I’m missing?

Any supporting documentation, certification records, or manufacturer guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I also have the same question regarding DigiKey part number ADUM4401CRIZ-ND. Our Intertek documentation indicates that the component should carry a cUR or CSA mark, but I could not identify any agency approval marking on the physical component.

Any clarification or supporting certification documentation would be appreciated.

We usually go off the datasheets information for the data we put forth in the parts parameters.

The ADUM4401CRIZ has the listings on the datasheet top left:
► Safety and regulatory approvals (RI-16/RW-16 package)
► UL 1577
► VISO = 5000 V rms for 1 minute
► IEC/EN/CSA 62368-1
► IEC/CSA 60601-1
► IEC/CSA 61010-1
► CQC GB 4943.1
► DIN EN IEC 60747-17 (VDE 0884-17)

Those numbers are for the UL and CSA websites to gain the information for that exact listing or rating.

UL “listing” typically applies to finished-goods products such as a microwave oven, while “recognized” is applied to component parts (such as a fuse or a relay) used in the construction of such. Perhaps there’s more to the story, but expecting a component product to be “listed” seems unreasonable.

If the product is headed to Canada, then getting blessing from the Canadian bureaucracies is a hoop one should expect to jump through. If the product is not going to Canada, demanding use of product having Canadian approval is unreasonable.

A part like the '4401 might be thought of as a sub-component product; a thing useful for the construction of a recognizable component and subject to scrutiny of its own, but one for which proper application is nearly as important as the performance of the part itself. Put differently, its proper use requires attention to creepage, clearance, pollution degree, material tracking index, PCB layout, etc. Being concerned about graffiti to the exclusion of these other factors would be to miss the point almost entirely.
