I am looking to purchase a replacement USB-C / Thunderbolt connector for an HP ProBook 640 G8 laptop through DigiKey.

(USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C with Thunderbolt™ Gen 3 technology (right side))

The connector is soldered directly to the motherboard. I have attached reference images showing the type of connector required.

Based on the available information, it appears to be:

USB Type-C female receptacle

  • 24 contacts
  • Right-angle / horizontal orientation
  • SMT contacts
  • Mid-mount PCB design
  • Reinforced metal shell with mechanical mounting tabs
  • Used for USB-C / Thunderbolt connectivity

Could you please help me identify the DigiKey part number that best matches the connector shown in the attached images?

The most important points are the PCB footprint, contact arrangement, connector height, and mechanical mounting tabs, as the replacement must match the original motherboard layout.

Once the correct part is identified, I would like to order it directly from DigiKey.

Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum! I am unable to identify the exact part number that HP uses, however if it is one that we carry then it’s likely to be one of the options for a USB-C receptacle. The footprint layout is critical to ensure that it will work as you have mentioned. Part of the footprint is the pitch measurements of the contacts, as well as the measurements of the board guides. I’ve narrowed down the options as much as I could with the information provided; the next steps would be to take measurements and then go through some options in the list provided earlier to see if any match up. Apart from that, sometimes the part number is stamped on the receptacle itself that could provide a lead on a replacement.
