Vishay aluminum electrolytic capacitor altitude limit (MAL210118333E3 for example)

------Question for MAL210118333E3 Please Put your question below------

What is the maximum rated altitude for these capacitors?

I could not find altitude specification for MAL210118333E3 in the available Vishay documentation. The specifications include an operating temperature range of-40°C to +85°C, but no altitude rating is listed. untitled

i will suggest contacting Vishay directly for altitude-related operating limits.

Most 'lytic caps don’t come with an altitude “rating” per-se; by the time one gets to a point where it’s relevant there’s usually enough confounding details/considerations at play to limit the utility of any figure based on a set of assumed conditions.

Electrolyte loss either due to venting or long-term dry-out is an obvious concern. Higher altitudes commonly correlate with lower air density, thus lower cooling potential and risk of exceeding temperature limits. That effect may/may not be mitigated by lower atmospheric temperatures that also often attend high altitudes, but lower temperatures also result in elevated ESR that may be problematic on other fronts.

Then there’s issues of vibration tolerance, since getting to high altitudes often can be a bumpy affair. Whether one’s interested in things holding up for an hour, a day, or a decade matters, as does the difference between an application where failure means being out fifty bucks and some dissapointment, versus a half-billion and a long period of hostile publicity.
