What do I & E mean in the part numbers LTC3601IUD-TRPBF & LTC3601EUD#TRPBF

Yes for our customers, we do know what I or E mean in the part numbers LTC3601IUD#TRPBF & LTC3601EUD#TRPBF.

In the attached 3601fc datasheet of LTC3601 from ADI (former Linear Technology Corp.) there’s this hint, that they changed the Extended Temperature Range for E -Grade to -40°C to 125°C – same as former Industrial Operating Junction Temperature in the Order Information Section.

After Analog Devices Inc. acquired Linear Technology Corporation (LTC) in July 2016 they harmonized some part numbers like our DigiKey#
161-LTC3601I UD#TRPBFTR-ND & 4340-LTC3601E UD#TRPBFTR-ND.

Here’s the text from the data sheet highlighting the change. (bolding mine)

The LTC3601E is guaranteed to meet specifications from 0°C to 85°C junction temperature. Specifications over the –40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature range are assured by design, characterization and correlation with statistical process controls. The LTC3601I is guaranteed over the full –40°C to 125°C operating junction temperature range.

So if you need an actual guarantee (formal contract) of range >85°C choose the “I” version. If you don’t need the actual guarantee and are comfortable with an assurance (promise) instead, choose the “E” version.
