------Question for 7914J-1-000E Please Put your question below------
Hello dstirnweis,
Thank you for contacting DigiKey Electronics.
If you want the actuator length, it is 1.65mm.
If you want to know how far the actuator can move, before the switch will activate, that dimension is not on the datasheet.
Hi dstirnweis,
Welcome to the TechForum.
From the datasheet of the 7914J-1-000E, it shows the dimensions and references “L” as the actuator height above the body of the switch:
Below, the part number breakdown specifies that “000” refers to a length of 1.65mm for the dimension “L”.
Part number breakdown:
I saw that in the product sheet.
I’m specifically looking for the actuation distance or switch travel of the limit switch. Is there anywhere I could find that?
I’ve also had difficulties accessing the data sheet from multiple web browsers so maybe it’s in there but just not loading for me.
Do you know is that “flush” value is the end height of the limit switch at full switch travel?
I’m looking specifically for the actuation distance/switch travel value.
This part is not a limit switch, it is a key switch intended for simple low performance human interface applications.
I assume Bourns does not want to specify a travel distance since that is usually not a factor in the intended application and every guaranteed spec adds to the production costs.
Interesting, I was planning on using it to provide a contact/no contact signal for whether a small door was open or closed.
Is this a bad application for this part?
Yes, the 7914J-1-000E is not the right product for your application.
I did a quick survey of some of our similar tactile switches from other makes, and the travel typically ranges from about 0.15mm to about 0.3mm. This one would likely be similar.
You don’t want to use what we call “tactile” switches, as they have practically no travel.
If you’re looking for small surface-mount detector switches, here’s where you might want to look.
Perhaps something like one of these:
There is a different category of switches designed for your application type, limit/detector switches.
