WIFI connections

Hi Robert,

You are Linux expert, may I ask a general programming question related to wifi connections?
Connmanctl can be used to setup connections to WIFI access points. But I believe it can only have one active connection to wifi access points. One at a time. Is it possible to have an application for simultaneously connecting to multiple access points? What I am thinking really is to have an iPhone to control multiple wifi devices simultaneously.

Thank you very much,
David

Hi @dzhou, so connman wasn’t designed for multiple “active” connections. It was designed to very easily switch between active connections as they come up and down.

Not all WiFi devices support multiple connections so this becomes tricky.

WiFi Mesh was one method proposed for this, but not all devices support that either.

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your input.
I searched a bit more, and found the command on Linux:
$iw dev wlan0 interface add vwlan0 type managed
to create virtual interfaces for multiple connections.
On iOS, it seems that apple has multipeer connectivity framework.
Not so sure that what is the exact requirement for the wifi chip itself. Assume it shall work.

Best Regards,
David

this doesn’t work on every WiFi devices…

wl18xx on BeagleBone Black Wireless

broadcom on BeagleBone AI, doesnt’ support managed, so we used __ap…
