Wire gauges supported by MOLEX MicroClasp crimp tool

The data sheet for MOLEX’s crimp tool 2002187100 states that the tool works with 22-26 AWG wire. That data sheet also states this tool is compatible with Molex MicroClasp female terminals, p/n 561349000 and 561349100, whose wire gauge range is 28-22 AWG.

I want to confirm that this crimp tool will work with these particular female connectors when using 28 AWG stranded wire.

Hello,

I have checked on Molex’s website and have confirmed that this tool will also work with the MicroClasp terminals down to 28AWG wire.

Thanks for checking on this for me, Rob.

FWIW, when I initially scanned the “parts detail” PDF file for that tool, I didn’t notice that the “Tooling Specifications” section has a link to another PDF file that provides more detailed information about that hand tool:

https://www.molex.com/content/dam/molex/molex-dot-com/products/automated/en-us/applicationtoolingspecificationpdf/200/200218/2002187100-000.pdf

A few moments ago I downloaded that PDF and scanned it. I that PDF’s SCOPE section there’s a table, and under that table is a note (#4) that says, “28 AWG wire is not recommended for use in this [56134-9x00] terminal. Use 22-26 AWG wire for better crimp quality.” So, it seems 28 AWG can be used, but it’s not recommended.
