Component ID

I am restoring an old automotive horn. I have wound a new coil for it and I just need this component shown. There is a set of points just to the left. I would assume this would be a capacitor but I’m not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Also not sure if this is a 6 or 12 volt horn.

Hello idriver007, Welcome to the Forum.

It does look like that part will be a Wirewound Resistor. I am going to say a 6.8 ohm at 5Watts. I believe the K is calling out the Tolerance which stands for 10%.

I read another forum that talked about Horn voltage and it seems they may be running on a 12V system and just dropping the voltage to around 6V for the horn.

This would be a similar Resistor CP00056R800KB14-ND, However, this part we do not have Stock on and would be a min buy of 10 pieces.
What I can offer you is this part 6.8W-5-ND from yageo.
It also is a 6.8 ohm at 5W. The one difference is the tolerance at 5% instead of 10%. This just makes it a little better.

Please take a look at this and see if it will work for you.
If you have any questions Please let us know.
Thanks,
Paul
