It seems likely that the use case here is for inrush limiting, rather than overcurrent protection. In which case, the NTC action does indeed fit the bill.
Hey, I also happen to be fixing a PSW1000 as mine blew just a couple weeks ago! My DSP056 were also fired. Seems like I had some transistors short… TBD I suppose. Anyways, would you be able to send me a copy of the schematics? I reached out to Polk Audio and they agreed to send it but I’m still waiting on it. Thanks!
By the way, the “SL154R00A” mentioned in the initial inquiry looks quite similar to the following part number with the letter “A” replaced by the number “8”, which possibly not coincidentally happens to sound almost the same.

Regarding the markings on the green “DSP” part shown, I haven’t found a key to decode that number. It’s reasonably likely that the “05” represents “5Ω” (@ 25°C) and that “6” represents “6 amps” for maximum steady-state current, but I can not confirm.
Regardless, the 4316-5D2-18LC-ND mentioned above is probably a reasonable option, too.
