The SMX1500XLRT2U is a Tripp Lite (now Eaton) SmartPro 1500VA UPS that is rack mountable. It uses sealed lead-acid batteries and can connect to an external battery module for extra runtime.
Why replace the internal battery
-
Lead-acid batteries wear out, typically after a few years, and runtime drops as they age..
-
Swelling, leaking or a short runtime under load are signs it’s overdue.
-
RBC93-2U: For units manufactured before December 2023 or 744-A4801: For units manufactured after January 2024 restores the original runtime.
Why add an external battery
- You need longer runtime for servers or network gear to shut down cleanly or ride out longer outages.
- Your load has grown since the UPS was installed.
- The BP48VRM2U adds runtime, and up to four can be daisy-chained.
Replacing the internal battery restores runtime lost to aging, while an external pack adds capacity beyond what the UPS originally offered. Many people do both, because extra capacity helps little if the batteries inside the UPS are already worn.
