TE Connectivity, Part Number 350218-7: Discolored or Corroded Contacts?

TE Connectivity AMP’s Universal MATE-N-LOK series is one of the most widely used connector systems in the industry. Sometimes we get questions on these devices relating to contact oxidation, such as with contact part number 350218-7. The crimp band and underside of the contacts can sometimes appear a dull grey, rather than the shinier color seen in the product’s images and documentation. Does this mean the part has oxidized and is unusable?

Not to worry. This coloration is considered normal for these products; the matte nickel underplate on these products simply appears this way at times. This coloration will not affect the performance of the products.
