Vishay CRCW1218 vs RCL1218 series

Sometimes entering a Vishay Dale resistor p/n from CRCW1218 series (package size 1218 (3246 Metric)) on Digi-Key website or ordering it in Digi-Key internal system, can result getting/shipping a different p/n from RCL1218 series because CRCW1218 parts appears in “Other Names” section on a product page

Examples:
Entering p/n CRCW1218100RJNEK will result RCL1218100RJNEK (RCL100BCT-ND)
Entering CRCW12181K00FKEK will result RCL12181K00FKEK (RCL1.00KACT-ND)

Shipping RCL part instead of CRCW part can cause a big issue for a customer as RCL series might be not approved
in customer AVL and will result a RMA requests and CAPA reports

At a first glance, looking at a data sheet of the both series CRCW1218 and RCL1218, it looks like that it is a mistake offering RCL1218 instead of CRCW1218:

CRCW1218:

RCL1218:

But going deeper thru the data sheets and comparing all functional, electrical and mechanical specifications, reveals that both parts are exactly the same

Please look-out there is really a difference in the landing pattern:
CRCW1218 as Standard Thick Film Chip Resistor calls out SOLDERING PADS on the short side whereas
RCL1218 has the Long Side Termination as Thick Film Chip Resistor for the SOLDERING PADS on the long side
so the footprint has to be different on the PCB – Printed Circuit Board !?!

NO, for 1218 package both parts are the same, that’s why I have written:
