The 221 Series lever-nuts from WAGO are available with three different lever colors: orange, gray, and green. These colors are not merely aesthetic; they serve specific functional and certification purposes.
The orange 221 lever-nuts are the original version introduced by WAGO and are approved by numerous certification agencies. They are available in two sizes, based on conductor range. One version accepts 10–20 AWG wire and is rated for 30 amps. The second version accepts 12–24 AWG wire and is rated for 20 amps. Both sizes carry a 600-volt rating.
The gray 221 lever-nuts are designed for use in hazardous locations. To meet Ex requirements, they must be installed with a mounting carrier. While the gray 221 lever-nuts can be used without a mounting carrier, doing so does not satisfy Ex certification requirements for hazardous environments. Gray 221 lever-nuts are available in the same sizes and carry the same amp ratings as the orange versions, with the addition of approvals for hazardous-location applications.
The green 221 lever-nuts are an environmentally focused version of the 221 Series. They are available only in the 12–24 AWG size and are not offered in the 10–20 AWG version. The green 221 lever-nuts carry the same 20-amp rating and approvals as the comparable orange version but are packaged in more sustainable materials.
WAGO packages the green 221 lever-nuts in grass paper, a sustainable alternative to 100% recycled paper. This packaging is composed of up to 30% grass fiber and approximately 70% recycled paper. Orders placed in quantities below standard manufacturer packaging through DigiKey may not include this grass-paper packaging.
