Welcome to the forum.
I was expecting a common hardware store solvent would do the trick, then I read the data sheet. This tape is specifically designed to resist being loosened with solvent. You may end up having to use mechanical removal methods that can damage the metal.
However it’s still worth a try to soften the adhesive with different solvents. Make sure you follow all solvent safety instructions. I usually start with alcohol and work my way up the aggressive/dangerous list through naptha to toluene & acetone.
Hi emily.skipper
Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum. Another option you could try is applying high heat (greater than 400 F) with a torch and slowly separate the sheet metal as you apply heat and pull the sheets apart. This may discolor the steel and if it’s painted it will burn the paint so you’ll need to decide if this is an option.
Thanks for your advice! I’ve tried acetone and alcohol so far and had no luck. I think I’ll try high heat next and for a last ditch effort trial naptha and toluene.
I’ll give it a go, thanks for your help!
