All right. Deeply sorry for the delay, but I’ve finally heard back on this issue. Per our Maxim/Analog team:
"Used to mean custom part, for a specific customer. But would have no special meaning, to making a part different. Usually once the customer no longer is using it or contract for that good expires, the vendor will release the stock back into the core part numbers inventory. Which appears to be the case here. "
