Confirming CSA Approval

Hello All,

Often there are questions regarding manufacturer documentation for CSA approval or certification. For CSA Approval you’ll typically find a file number instead of a printed certificate, or the logo and standard will be printed on the part itself. Since we don’t send out photos of products on the shelf, it may be useful to know that you can look up the file number for the product line in question on the CSA Group’s website: CSA Group Product Listing

If you’re lucky enough to have the file number it’s fairly easy, just copy and paste in the appropriate field. If instead the manufacturer simply has the various ratings listed/printed, you’ll have to search by Manufacturer Name, Product Area (such as “Transformers” or “Batteries and Energy Storage”), and appropriate keywords or other fields on the form as available.

Your mileage may vary on this, but in my experience is usually best to use the manufacturer name and product area first, to narrow down the options as when you attempt to use your own keywords or search terms you can accidentally come up with a false negative on your search, simply due to a difference in terminology or the use of too many or too specific a search term. For example, you won’t usually find CSA files listed by part number, so if you enter a model number or series name, you’ll come away with 0 results because that information is not in CSA’s system.
