Difference between BusBoard BB830 and BB830M breadboards?

There are two 830-point breadboards from BusBoard on DigiKey: BB830 and BB830M. How do they differ?

Hello,

Welcome to DigiKey tech forum community.

These two look to be identical. I did not find out what the call out of the M means as the data sheet only mentions the T suffix for the transparent color… BPS-DAT-(BB830)-Datasheet.pdf (busboard.com) and their website for BB830 | Solderless Plug-in BreadBoard | BusBoard Prototype Systems also does not mention the M suffix.

At this point, this is a guess on my part, but from their datasheet, it states the following:

From page 2 of the datasheet:

I suspect the “M” refers to the optional metal backplate.

The BB830M is a “Modular” breadboard. M=Modular. The power rails can be detached from the middle circuit area and the parts can be rearranged. Mix and match the parts to make your own configuration.

The BB830 has one piece of double-sided tape covering the entire back of the breadboard. The power rails don’t come off easily as the tape would need to be cut.

The BB830 comes with a metal backplate so that the breadboard can be attached to the metal plate if you are not attaching it to a different surface. The metal plate is more scratch resistant than just leaving the plain tape backing on the back of the breadboard.

The BB830M has 3 pieces of double sided tape so the power rails can be separated and arranged in different configurations (e.g. 2 power rails on top). The BB830M does not include a metal backplate since this defeats it being modular.

The BB830M power rails and circuit area are available separately as the BB630 and BB100R parts so you can mix and match them to make your own configuration.

The BB1460 (also called the BB1460M) is our first modular breadboard before we started using the M suffix. It has two circuit areas and three power rails with one in the middle. It is great for wide dev boards (e.g. ESP32-DevKitC models) that can span the middle power rail to get more working area.

Here are the DK part links for the other parts mentioned: BB100R, BB630

Also search for BB1460, BB830, BB830M (I can only put 2 links in a post).

Thanks for the questions!

Correction to my previous post: The BB1460 (aka BB1460M) has two circuit areas and two power rails. The new BB1560M has two circuit areas and three power rails. The BB1560M is coming soon to Digi-Key.
