Solderless breadboard products provide a convenient means of interconnecting electronic components in hobby, educational, or development contexts, without the need for soldering or similar fixation processes. Composed of U-shaped metallic contacts positioned beneath a grid of holes in an electrically insulating housing, component leads, and wire segments inserted through the holes in the insulator are electrically connected and retained under spring tension by the contacts beneath. Though easily reconfigurable and thus ideal for experimentation, they do not provide mechanically robust interconnections, and introduce significant parasitic circuit elements which make them ill-suited for high-speed circuits.
Selection Characteristics
Type: Indicates the style and configuration of the device.
Number of Terminal Strips: Indicates the number of regions on the board commonly used for interfacing to DIP-packaged ICs. Does not imply a certain length of such regions.
Number of Distribution Buses: The number of power distribution termination strips available on the board.
Number of Tie Points (Total): The number of individual connection points (holes) on the breadboard.
Number of 5-Tie Point Terminals: Indicates the number of distinct interconnect nodes available on the board.
Number of Binding Posts: Indicates the number of binding posts available on the board, typically used for power distribution.
Size / Dimension: The physical dimensions of the device. Given in Length by Width, in Inches (Millimeters).
