Digilent Eval Kit 471-043: Which Antenna Can You Use?

Digilent offers their 471-043 universal software radio peripheral (USRP) board as an easy way to develop software-based radios in your project. However, Ettus Research doesn’t mention anywhere in its documentation which antenna the kit is looking for, or even what the antenna connectors are. What sorts of antenna can you use for this kit?

Because this kit can be used with a wide and diverse array of wireless standards, there’s no single antenna band you can guarantee will work. The kit can accommodate FM, TV broadcast, cellular, GPS, WiFi, and more, which means selection of your antenna comes down to which frequency band and wireless standard you’re working with.

That said, the board itself is equipped with SMA female connectors and accepts antenna with SMA male connectors. TE Connectivity Linx’s ANT-5GWWS4-SMA is a multi-band antenna with the correct connector that hits many of these frequency bands; if you’re not sure which standard you’re going to use, this antenna would be a good place to start.
