Equivalent 2SC2954 SOT89

I’m looking for the equivalent of the SC2954 transistor in a SOT89 case.

Thank you for your inquiry.

I was unable to find a suitable replacement to this. Specifically the Gain Bandwidth Product (ft) spec of 3 to 4Ghz, I didn’t see anything in that class. Maybe somebody else might have better findings.

2SC4226 ? 2SC2954 is used for driver in TS50 kenwood transmitter

ou le 2SC3356 ?

Thank you for contacting DigiKey , neither the 2SC4226 or the 2SC3356 are a SOT89 package type , they are both smaller pacages with only 3 contact areas .

Thanks Craig

Sorry for digging up the old thread. I am searching a replacement too, Kenwood transceiver too, it is used for the VCO buffer amplifier at 73..113MHz. What about the BFQ18A? It seems to have similar data, but I couldn’t find a noise figure. I think this is not much important for the high level amp stage here. I would’n mind a different package.

Thanks Bernd

Hello @dl6lr,

Yes, the BFQ18A looks promising. However, it has a BCE pinout when we are looking for a BEC.

Unable to locate a direct substitute from DigiKey’s Bipolar RF Transistor class. The SC2954 is a challenging part with its relatively high VCE along with high frequency.

As a last resort, you may be able to hack a TO-92 onto the PCB.

Best wishes,

APDahlen

Hi APDahlen,

thank you for your fast response. According to my datasheet of the 2SC2954 from NEC it has the same layout. It is confusing as the NEC datasheet shows the transistor from the back (solder) side as ECB (at least this is what I would interpret from the drawing), but NxP shows it from the top as BCE. But I found a datasheet from isc which states BEC. That does not make any sense to me, so I checked the board layout again and the middle pin is the collector and right pin is emitter, so definitely BCE.
And yes, the 2SC2954 has high power, high amplification, high frequency and with 18V a high Uce, so not an easy to replace part.

Thank you for your opinion and the pointer to a different pinout, I will place an order for BFQ18A which is still in stock but an outdated part as well.

Greetings Bernd

From the service manual:

Thank you for the correction and pictures, @dl6lr.

Please let us know if you were successful in restoring your transceiver.

Sincerely,
