Ferrite iron powder types

When looking for ferrite toroids, I always struggle with the search filters. The web page offers material type, e.g. N67. The trouble is many manufacturers have come and gone (over my 50 years of electronic design experience). Philips used to supply iron powder cores (yellow), ideal for DC chokes, but no more. Now Wurth supply two parts 1A and 3A, pre-wound yellow inductors with limited specifications, inductance, maximum current but what about magnetic saturation H? How can I select the search type as DC iron powder chokes? I need to find iron powder cores with detailed specifications.

Hello @derycklauf,

Yes, I believe I see your pain point:

  • For the category of ferrite cores, DigiKey has a “Material” selector (e.g., 40, 42, 52, Kool Mu) to describe the mix used in each core. Many of these materials appear to be proprietary mixes.

  • To my knowledge there is no method to select by application from with the DigiKey search tools.

The best I can offer is to search from the manufacturer’s material and design tools such as Magnetics.

Best wishes,

APDahlen
