A recent inquiry included a few questions related to the use and handling of the Broadcom AFBR-S10TR001Z optical transceiver component. Please find the summarized issues and responses from manufacturer:
1. Connector Shell Deformation After Wave Soldering
The production line found that the outer shell of the connector appeared stretched after passing through the wave soldering process:
The manufacturer clarified that the metal shell acts as an EMI shield, and slight expansion due to handling should not impact the connector’s performance.
2. Washing the Component
The customer noted water stains inside the component after washing without the dust plug in place. Concerns were raised about the wash process and whether water ingress affects functionality.
It was confirmed that any foreign matter or contamination inside the component can potentially affect its performance.
AFBR-S10TR001Z components are moisture sensitive devices and are shipped in a moisture sealed bag. If the components are exposed to air for an extended period of time, they may require a baking step before the soldering process. Refer to the special labeling on the shipping tube for details.
Regarding cleaning, the recommended chemicals include:
- Alcohols: methyl, isopropyl, isobutyl
- Aliphatics: hexane, heptane
- Other: soap solution, naphtha
- Use of halogenated hydrocarbons (e.g., 1,1,1-trichloroethane) and ketones (e.g., MEK, acetone, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methylene dichloride, phenol, methylene chloride, or N-methylpyrolldone) is not recommended due to potential material or environmental risks.
Also, Broadcom does not recommend the use of cleaners that use halogenated hydrocarbons because of their potential environmental harm.
3. Dust Plug Marking Meaning
Does the number marked on the dust plug of this component have any special meaning and can it be mixed?
The numbers marked on the dust plug are cavity numbers. These numbers have no special functional meaning and can be mixed.
