KEMET supplies a broad range of passive components as a primary part of their portfolio, including a whole load of capacitor options. One question we get periodically is what the suffixes on these devices signify. While most of these questions come down to KEMET’s well-known C-Specs suffixes, a few aren’t covered in this information. One such uncovered suffix is ‘TU’, frequently found on KEMET ceramic capacitors. Does this suffix affect the product’s specifications or performance, and if so, how?
In this case the ‘TU’ suffix doesn’t affect the performance of the product, as is almost always the case with packaging suffixes. However, it does signify an aspect of the final devices. The ‘T’ half of TU indicates a standard 7" tape-and-reel package, while the ‘U’ denotes unmarked capacitors. In this case, the capacitors being unmarked is explicitly the point and is not cause to reject the product; some customers actively prefer unmarked products and so KEMET provides them.
