Kyocera CX3225SB suffix confusion, ZZ vs CC

Hello
I would like to obtain some clarity on the difference between two Kyocera components:
CX3225SB16000D0FLJZZ
and
CX3225SB16000D0FLJCC.
Very little information is provided on the datasheet (only saying that the suffix means “Individual specification”).
Is there anyone who knows precisely what the difference between these components is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
SS

Hello Mecalc_SS,

Thank you for your inquiry and welcome to the community!

ZZ will indicate the device comes on a 1,000 piece reel.

CC means it ships on a 3,000 piece reel.

Hello Kristof

Thank you for the feedback. We are seeing inconsistent results from these devices with different suffixes. Might this rather be attributable to device batches instead (The one batch is labelled K417Y [works as expected] and the other is labelled K636Y [does not work as expected]).

Possibly.

There’s also a chance the design is on the ragged edge of working so a difference in lot codes is bringing that issue forward. Double check crystal drive levels, chosen load capacitor values and if the crystal is placed in direct proximity to the chip.

If you have a failed crystal you might want to install a range of load capacitor values to see the bottom and top range of where the crystal starts working, this is called Safety Factor. Once you find those two thresholds you then pick a capacitor value that is directly in the middle of them, mathematically the average of the two.

Hello

I’d like to provide an update after talking to Kyocera: They informed me that the testing methods for the crystals changed between Z* (Z1 or CC) and C* crystals. This has definitely resulted in a change in the performance of the crystal, likely because the qualification of the crystal has either improved or worsened. These changes specifically affect the motional capacitance, motional inductance, motional resistance or shunt capacitance of the device.

Anyone purchasing the newer components with the CC suffix should be aware that it is NOT simply the size of the reel indicated by the suffix, but the characteristics of the device itself. This is not well indicated on any data sheet, and I hope that others may find this information useful.
