LVDS/LCD board connector washable

We are using a 30-position JAE connector (FI-X30SSLA-HF-R2500) that mates to our LCD cable. We are reviewing our assembly process and would like to change to a water soluble flux and wash cycle. Is this JAE part washable? If not is there an alternative that is washable?

Questions regarding component washability are common, more so than they need to be.

Some basic questions that govern “washability” are:

  • Is the product made of materials that will be affected by the wash media?
  • Does the product’s mechanical design make entrapment of the wash media likely?
  • Is there a likelihood of wash media ingress that may lead to device damage?

Because parameters regarding wash processes are outside of a manufacturer’s control, few will call a component “washable” unless the answer to all three is strongly negative. Most will apply caveats anyhow in those cases.

Because a component like this inherently contains all manner of small nooks and crannies that will entrap the wash media along with any schmoo dissolved or suspended in it, the chances of finding a version that’s officially “washable” from any reputable source are virtually nil.

Could a person wash it anyhow? Of course, but there are foreseeable issues relating to insulation failure and/or corrosion which a person would have to be concerned with and assume responsibility for.
