MEAN WELL is a well-known purveyor of power supplies both large and small. One such offering is their LRS series of devices, a core part of their PSU lineup. A question we receive on these devices at times is whether they can accept battery backup, in case of mains power failure. Is this something the LRS series can do?
This series can accept DC power, but are not designed for purely battery-powered operation. Even on the lowest end, their acceptable DC power range starts at 120VDC. Many devices in this series require even higher DC voltage to function correctly. If DC backup and uninterruptible power are key to your application, you’ll want to design a DC backup storage system that can meet the specifications of your circuit and run that in addition to this LRS series, rather than trying to supply the LRS series from the battery source directly.
