Hi

Silicon has confirmed this part to be MSL 4.

DigiKey has MSL 1 listed.

Is there some documentation that Silicon has shared with you that confirms the part is defined by the manufacturer as MSL4? Our MSL information is typically based on the manufacturer’s direct guidance so it seems unlikely that a third party would have more reliable information on this.

It’s fairly common for a given product to be packed as MSL or dry-pack, even if it’s not MSL2 or higher, if it’s being fabricated or assembled at a factory that processes higher MSL products alongside MSL1 products. It prevents them from accidentally shipping MSL2+ product in inappropriate packaging when product is packed for shipping to distributors.

BCM56440TB0IFSBLG is obsolete and no longer manufactured, so it’s not going to have much data available, but typically a product like this is assembled/fabricated at multiple facilities, some of which handle MSL product. If it’s from a mixed source, it’s treated as the highest MSL for packing purposes, and if it’s from a source that only handles MSL1 parts, it’s packaged normally. I can’t say with 100% certainty that this is the story with BCM56440TB0IFSBLG, but it’s most likely something similar to this.
