Recently, DigiKey received an inquiry concerning the suitability of the FLIR Lepton UW (500-1387-00) for monitoring temperature changes in exterior wall tiles—specifically, to determine whether those changes could cause the tiles to lift. They had a few specific questions:
- What is the ideal distance to measure from?
- What is considered an ultra-wide-angle field of view (e.g., how much area can be captured from a certain distance from the wall)?
- Does the camera offer a removable mounting option?
To help address these questions, we reached out to the manufacturer. Here’s their response:
"For the FLIR Lepton UW, the ideal distance for temperature measurement depends on the size of the area you’re interested in. Because of this, the recommended distance may vary depending on the specific application, so it’s difficult to provide a single, definitive distance.
The camera features an ultra-wide 160-degree field of view, which allows it to capture a broad area—approximately 2.8 meters wide from a distance of 1 meter.
It can be mounted in various ways, including removable options using the included mounting bracket. Additional mounting solutions are available on our website, and some distributors also offer custom options."
