My LAUNCHXL2 has come in with the incorrect IC

Is this officially sanctioned by Texas Instruments?

As you can see in the image below there are several LAUNCHXL2 boards available and they use different integrated circuits under normal conditions.

Some customers have recently noticed that when they have received their LAUNCHXL2-TMS57012 the part marking on the IC does not match what is noted in the official documentation.

After some discussion with our customers and Texas Instruments we have learned that due to supply chain shortages TI has gone ahead with a short term use of an alternative that is already used on one of the other products in the Hercules™ Series.

The IC they are using is the same IC as the one found on the LAUNCHXL2-RM46. TI does plan to create some documentation to this effect but that may take some time.

These boards do not need to be returned or replaced as they do offer the same functionality for EVM purposes as the originals.
